Something In The Wind

The largest cat in North America, the cougar or puma, is extremely agile. The long, heavy tail is used as a runner for fast turns in pursuit of prey. They can leap more than 15 feet in height, bound up to 40 feet running, and can sprint up to 50 miles an hour. They are mostly nocturnal, relying on acute senses of hearing and vision. They are comfortable in many different habitats and now found mostly in the western US, and an endangered subspecies in Florida. They require large amounts of habitat, depending on the abundance of prey. Conservations efforts include preserving large tracts to support the big cats.
